Understanding our re-homing Process:
Before we tell you about our rehoming process, we would like to gently remind everyone that all the members of Friends of Penny Min Pin Rescue are unpaid volunteers….that do what we do for the love of the breed. Everything we do for the min pins we do in our “free time”, in addition to working, taking care of our families (human and furkids), housework, etc. That being said, we do our best to process applications in a timely manner. If you feel as though it is taking an exceptionally long time, we apologize. Please be patient with us. Thank you.
Now to the process: The first step is to complete and submit the online adoption application. Please be sure to provide complete information as missing or incomplete information can prolong the approval process. After you have submitted your ADOPTION APPLICATION please be sure to check the spam settings in your email program to allow or recognize as an “approved sender” any email from an @rescueminpins email address. A lot of communication from this point forward will be via email. The first email you will receive will be an automatic reply to your application. If you do not receive that email, please check your email settings again and/or check your “junk” box.
Once you have submitted our adoption application the first step is a vet check and/or landlord reference check. We call your vet to verify your current and past pet are and have been kept current on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and on heartworm preventative. If you rent, we verify with your landlord that you are allowed to adopt a Miniature Pinscher. At Friends of Penny Min Pin Rescue we are all about the dogs; it not just about placing any dog with any family. We want the right home for the Min Pin as well as the perfect Min Pin for your family. We have had a 100% success rate in our re-homing program and we want to keep it that way. Next, we make arrangements to do a home-VISIT, which is done by one of our volunteers. If we do not have a volunteer that lives close enough to accomplish this, we work with other rescues to get this done. Just to alleviate some worrying, we are not there to do a white glove test. We simply want to see, firsthand, where the dog will be living, meet you face to face, check the fence for any possible min pin escape routes (if you have a fence), etc. Once this is complete, everything is turned over to our Rehoming Management Team who will then contact you and work closely with you to find a min pin match for your family. We may also have the foster parent of the dog you are interested in contact you. Once approved, our foster parents have the final say about whether or not a dog they are fostering will be a good fit for a particular home. Again, we are all about the dogs. It is our belief that the foster parents know the min pins they foster better than anyone else and, therefore, have a better understanding of what the Min Pin needs and what type of environment will be best for them.
The final step in the adoption process is, of course, the adoption itself. When your newest family member arrives (or you arrive to pick them up) you will complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption donation if it has not already been paid. That will be explained further below. We have a 2 week trial adoption period. This is so that the family and the min pin get to know each other in their new home before making the final determination that this is a good fit. At the end of the 2 weeks you will receive copies of all vetting paperwork and a copy of the adoption contract. If for any reason within that 2 weeks you do not feel like this is the min pin for you, we will take the Min Pin back into foster care and continue to look for another min pin that may be a better fit. As to the payment of the non-refundable adoption donation, we prefer to have this paid via Paypal, Mastercard, Visa, check card, or electronic check. As to the non-refundable adoption donations, they typically range from $200 - $350. Please remember that prior to a min pin being adopted, each min pin has been fully vetted (spayed/neutered, all vaccinations brought current, heartworm tested negative, or, if positive has completed heartworm treatment and started on monthly heartworm preventative) pay the non-refundable adoption donation, sign the adoption contract, and complete the 2 week trial adoption. Additionally, any medical conditions we are aware of have been addressed. All of our min pins are also microchipped prior to adoption. The dogs' needs always come first: Always! We provide each Min Pin with everything they need, and we never let medical costs or human hours needed to be a negative factor in saving a Miniature Pinscher's life. To sum it all up…we find out about a min pin in danger, we bring the min pin into rescue. The min pin lives with a foster family, receives all vetting, learns how to live as a loved family member, is worked with on housebreaking and any other behavioral issues and is listed for adoption. You submit an adoption application, go through the adoption process (vet reference/landlord check, phone “interview”, and a home visit) work with our rehoming team to find your new family member, pay the non-refundable adoption donation, sign the adoption contract, and complete the 2 week trial adoption. On a final note, Friends of Penny is here for you throughout the life of your min pin. Be it for support, questions, sharing news and photos of your min pin, or just to chat. Thank you for choosing to adopt!
Min Pin Rescue, Inc. is an all volunteer based 501(3)c non-profit corporation registered with the Secretary of State of North Carolina. No one within the rescue organization receives any monetary compensation: not one cent. Our volunteers give their time, their money, and their hearts to save miniature pinchers’ lives and for the love of the breed. 100% of your adoption donation and any other donations received are used to pay the vetting costs of Min Pin within the rescue. Frequently our medical costs on the care we give a particular Min Pin will way exceed the requested adoption donation by many times. All donations to Friends of Penny go directly to the Furkids.
